Role Overview
The Treasurer plays a vital role in managing and overseeing the financial affairs of Volt UK. This role is responsible for budgeting, financial reporting, managing membership payments, liaising with suppliers, ensuring compliance with the Electoral Commission, and overseeing donation management. The Treasurer ensures that Volt UK’s finances are well-managed, transparent, and compliant with relevant regulations while supporting the party’s strategic financial planning.
Responsibilities
Financial Accounts & Budgeting
Maintain accurate financial records and oversee Volt UK’s financial accounts.
Develop and manage the party’s budget in alignment with strategic objectives.
Ensure financial compliance with UK laws and regulations governing political parties.
Monitor cash flow and ensure financial sustainability.
Reporting
Prepare and present financial reports for the Volt UK Board.
Provide regular updates on financial health, risks, and opportunities.
Ensure compliance with financial disclosure requirements and reporting deadlines.
Membership Payments
Working with the membership lead, develop and implement a strategy to optimise the collection of membership payments.
Design an effective pricing strategy for membership fees to maximise accessibility and financial sustainability.
Track and manage membership payments, ensuring accuracy and transparency.
Supplier Management
Liaise with all suppliers regarding orders and procurement processes.
Oversee and manage payments to suppliers in line with budget constraints.
Negotiate favourable terms and agreements with vendors to optimise financial resources.
Regulatory
Liaison with the Electoral Commission to ensure compliance with all financial regulations set by the UK Electoral Commission.
Working with the campaign’s officer to manage campaign financial reporting and submit required documentation.
Oversee officer appointments
Ensure compliance with the party’s constitution and rule book.
Fundraising and Donations Management
Establish and maintain processes for receiving, tracking, and reporting political donations.
Ensure all donations comply with legal and ethical standards.
Develop strategies to increase fundraising efforts and financial contributions.
Key Deliverables
Maintain and update Volt UK’s financial records.
Develop and oversee an annual budget plan.
Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting to the Volt UK Board and Electoral Commission.
Implement a structured approach to managing membership payments and pricing.
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers.
Oversee campaign finance compliance and reporting.
Develop and execute a robust donation and fundraising strategy.
Ensure financial policies and procedures align with legal and party regulations.
Role Requirements
Highly organised and detail-oriented individual.
Experience in financial management, budgeting, and reporting.
Strong understanding of financial regulations, particularly related to political parties.
Skilled in financial planning and cash flow management.
Experienced in liaising with external regulatory bodies, such as the Electoral Commission.
Ability to analyse financial data and communicate insights effectively.
Proficiency in using financial management software and tools.
