Role Overview
The UK Partnership Lead builds and manages strategic relationships between Volt UK and key external stakeholders, helping to establish Volt UK as a credible, constructive and connected political movement within the UK’s wider progressive and pro-European landscape.
The role identifies organisations and individuals with whom Volt UK can develop mutually beneficial relationships, including like-minded political movements and parties, NGOs, civil society organisations, businesses, professional bodies, campaign groups, academics and other influential stakeholders. The role creates opportunities for collaboration, dialogue, knowledge exchange and joint initiatives that advance Volt UK’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Partnership Strategy & Development
Develop a prioritised partnership strategy aligned with Volt UK’s overall political and organisational objectives
Map key external stakeholders and identify organisations and individuals with whom Volt UK should establish or strengthen relationships.
Identify opportunities for strategic partnerships, collaboration, joint initiatives and knowledge exchange.
Develop clear objectives and engagement plans for priority partnerships.
Build a pipeline of potential partners and maintain an overview of the status, opportunities and next steps for each relationship.
Stakeholder Engagement
Establish and maintain senior-level relationships with key stakeholders across politics, civil society, NGOs, business, academia and other relevant sectors.
Represent Volt UK professionally and credibly in external meetings, events, networks and forums.
Develop relationships with like-minded political movements and parties in the UK and, where appropriate, internationally.
Engage with NGOs, campaign organisations and civil society groups whose objectives overlap with Volt UK’s priorities.
Build relationships with businesses, professional organisations and other stakeholders to understand their perspectives and identify areas of common interests.
Maintain regular communication with priority partners and ensure relationships develop beyond initial introductions.
Partnerships & Collaboration
Develop opportunities for joint events, campaigns, workshops, publications, policy initiatives and other collaborative activities.
Facilitate two-way sharing of ideas, expertise, networks and opportunities between Volt UK and its partners.
Identify opportunities where external partnerships can strengthen Volt UK’s policy, campaigns, communications, community engagement or organisational capability.
Work with the Policy, Strategy, Communications, Community and Campaign Leads to turn partnership opportunities into practical initiatives.
Support the negotiation and development of partnership arrangements where appropriate, ensuring that they reflect Volt UK’s objectives and values.
Political & Strategic Intelligence
Maintain an understanding of the priorities, activities and influence of key stakeholder organisations.
Identify emerging political, social, economic and civic developments where partnership or engagement could benefit Volt UK.
Provide the Volt UK Board and relevant leads with intelligence and recommendations arising from external relationships.
Identify opportunities for Volt UK to participate in wider coalitions, networks and movements where this would advance its strategic objectives.
Internal Coordination & Relationship Management
Maintain a central record of strategic partnerships, key contacts, engagement history and agreed actions.
Ensure relevant internal teams are informed of partnership opportunities and commitments.
Coordinate external engagement where multiple Volt UK teams or leads are involved.
Ensure that relationships are managed consistently and that commitments made to external partners are followed through.
Help develop a culture within Volt UK that values constructive external engagement and collaboration.
Key Deliverables
A comprehensive stakeholder and partnership map identifying priority organisations, networks and individuals.
A prioritised partnership strategy aligned with Volt UK’s overall political strategy.
A pipeline of prospective partnerships, with clear objectives, engagement plans and next steps.
A portfolio of active strategic relationships across political, civil society, NGO, business, academic and other relevant sectors.
A programme of partnership activities, including joint events, campaigns, workshops, policy initiatives and knowledge-sharing opportunities.
A central partnership and stakeholder repository recording key relationships, engagement and agreed actions.
Regular reports to the Volt UK Board on partnership development, opportunities, risks and outcomes.
Role Requirements
Strong relationship-builder with the ability to establish trust and credibility with a wide range of stakeholders.
Strategic thinker able to identify which relationships and partnerships will deliver the greatest value for Volt UK.
Strong understanding of the UK political, civic and organisational landscape.
Experienced in stakeholder engagement, partnership development, external affairs, public affairs or a related field.
Excellent communicator, both verbally and in writing, with the confidence to represent Volt UK externally.
Able to identify common interests and develop mutually beneficial opportunities for collaboration.
Strong organisational and relationship-management skills, including the ability to maintain multiple external relationships and follow through on commitments.
Diplomatic and politically astute, with the ability to manage relationships where interests may not always be fully aligned.
Comfortable working in a volunteer-led, fast-moving and evolving political organisation.
